Archos Officially Announces GamePad 2, Ships in US for $200 / €148

Archos was pretty skittish when it came to revealing information about its next-gen GamePad at the IFA event not so long again. Then a leaked product listing revealed some of the specifications of the upcoming slate.

But now, Archos has finally introduced the Game Pad 2 featuring significant enhancements from the first-gen gaming tablet it put out earlier this year.

The Game Pad 2 is a 7-inch slate that now boasts an improved IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800, compared to the previous 1024 x 600.

To improve gaming experience, Archos has slipped more powerful specs, supplying power via a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 chip coupled with 2GB of RAM.

The company assures gamers that they will be able to play long hours, as they have added a better than average battery life augmented with 50%, when compared to other 7-inch slates out there. The slate runs Android Jelly bean out of the box.

The GamePad 2 features buttons and thumbsticks to aid game play and Archos has upgraded them significantly with this new version, adding better precision.

European gamers will be able to grab theirs as soon as this month at $243 / €180 a pop. As for the US, the gaming slate will start shipping in Q4 for $200 / €148.
