SSD Premier Pro SP600 Released by ADATA

The ADATA company has formally introduced the Premier Pro SP600 series of SSDs, built with the JMicron JMF661 controller chip.

They feature the 2.5-inch form factor, which is actually common for devices based on NAND Flash data retention technology.

Also as common is the interface available for communication with whatever system the newcomers end up being installed in: SATA III.

Known, according to its bandwidth, as SATA 6.0 Gbps, the technology isn't, unfortunately, fully exploited.

The top read speed that the Premier Pro SP600 series SSDs, as they are called, can attain is of 360 MB / s, while the greatest reading speed is 130 MB / s.

Quite a way off from the 550/500 + rates of SandForce-powered drives but, then again, those are a category all on their own, and real-life transfers don't actually go so high most of the time even for them.

But we digress. The 360/130 MB / s transfer speeds are for sustained, sequential read / write operations. The 4K random performance, meanwhile, is of 40,000 IOPS when reading and 30,000 IOPS when writing.

As for everything else, ADATA made sure to toss in support for NCQ, the TRIM command in Windows 8 (keeps clearing up deleted sectors, maintaining performance over time) and 40 b / KB ECC (error correcting code).

As for capacities, there are three: 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB, priced at $ 49.99 / 38-49.99 Euro, $ 69.99 / 53-69.99 Euro, and $ 99.99 / 76-99.99 Euro, respectively.

All in all, while the ADATA Premier Pro SP600 128 GB might not have enough capacity to qualify as a viable substitute for 500 GB + HDDs, the other two can work well as SSD caching solutions / boot drives (store system and often-used files, enhancing OS performance).
