Like its predecessor the Atom-based S1081, the new Windows 8 tablet will come with an optional docking station that adds a DVD drive as well as two speakers and a subwoofer. This effectively transforms the S1082 into a multimedia entertainment unit. Gigabyte also plans to launch a second battery option which can extend the battery life of the tablet to 12 hours, and an optional keyboard kit.

Other key specifications:

1,366 x 768-pixel display
Onboard SD card reader
Connectivity: USB, HDMI, D-Sub, LAN, 3.5G
790g to 850g
Gigabyte is expected to launch the S1082 after Microsoft's official announcement of its Windows 8 OS on Oct 26. Early price estimates for this tablet range from US $ 599 to US $ 799, according to a company spokesperson. He also revealed that Gigabyte will unveil a new tablet, possibly at CES next January, but declined to give more details.

Announced together with the S1082 is the company's upcoming convertible Ultrabook which features both a hard drive and an SSD onboard. You can read more about it here.
