New Sony software upgrade for Xperia™ T and Xperia™ TX

Japanese handset maker Sony announced its new series of Xperia phones back in August at IFA 2012 trade fair, in Berlin, Germany. One of the best-featured devices in the series, Xperia T has been released several weeks ago, though the handset has yet to make its entrance in some markets.

The bad news is that Xperia T ships with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, though most Sony fans expected the company to launch these new smartphones with Jelly Bean onboard.

However, the good news is that Sony already confirmed that most of these Xperia smartphones announced at IFA 2012 exhibition would be upgraded to Jelly Bean in the following months.

Today, the company came forward with an official announcement that details a new firmware update for Xperia T and Xperia TX.

Even though we already reported on this particular update about two weeks ago, Sony claims it will start rolling out the upgrade to markets globally this week.

Obviously, the availability and scheduling of this software upgrade, as well as specific models may vary by market and carrier requirements.

Also known as firmware version 7.0.A.3.195, this Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update brings a host of new features meant to improve the overall experience of Xperia T and Xperia TX users.

Once the update installs on the phone, users will be able to take advantage of a new function called Screen Mirroring. With Screen Mirroring users can experience the full Xperia T / TX interface wirelessly via Wi-Fi Miracast on a TV.

There's also a new "Extended standby mode," which is said to extend the phone battery's standby time by up to four times.

This update also adds some improvements to Sony's media apps. For example, Movies app will now allow users to run the show from the dashboard with a small viewing window, controls and film gallery.

Last but not least, the firmware update brings HD Voice support, though this is only available on Xperia T. According to Sony, HD Voice is not available for Xperia TX.
