Xbox SmartGlass for iOS out now

Previously available only for Android devices and Windows tablets, Xbox SmartGlass is now available to iOS users as well. The app is free to download and available from the iTunes store, and is supported on devices running iOS 5.0 or higher. SmartGlass replaces Xbox Companion for iOS, and provides an easy way to access your gaming console.

What exactly is Xbox SmartGlass? It's an app that gives you a way to interact with your Xbox from a smartphone or tablet while watching TV or playing a game. Users can browse content from a tablet, for example, while playing a game on their TV. The mobile device can also be used as a controller of sorts for browsing the Internet.

According to the iTunes store listing, "What's New in Version 2.0" includes the ability to swipe and tap your way through your Xbox, to use a smartphone's keyboard for typing, the ability to control video and music playback from the mobile device, the ability to track and monitor your friends' Xbox achievements, friend messaging, avartar management, the ability to edit one's Xbox profile, and more.

The Xbox SmartGlass iOS app is 33mb, and is available in English, Japanese, Italian, French, German, and Spanish. Presently, there is no native support for iPhone 5, which is a tad bit of an annoyance and nothing more. If you don't have an iOS device, you can nab SmartGlass for your Windows Phone or tablet, or for any Android tablet or smartphone.
