Amazon Smartphone Reportedly Sports a 4.7-Inch Display

The two giants Facebook and Amazon have been rumored to launch their own smartphones for quite some time now, but neither confirmed or denied the accuracy of these rumors.

According to industry supply chain sources, Amazon is working hard to get its first smartphone one the market by the end of Q2 2013.

Unfortunately, things are not looking great for the company, as production progress at its manufacturing partner Foxconn is not as smooth as previously expected, Digitimes claims.

The reasons behind this delay are unknown for now, but it appears that Amazon has been working to enhance the hardware of its smartphone and bring it on par with other high-end devices already available on the market.

In this regard, Digitimes reports Amazon has chosen a 4.7-inch display for the upcoming smartphone wearing its own brand, though the company was previously considering a slightly smaller 4.3-inch touchscreen.

No other details on the phone’s hardware were provided but given the fact that the Amazon smartphone is still a work in progress it’s hard to tell which specs sheet will be final.

One thing is certain, Amazon is likely to postpone the launch of its own Android smartphone for later this year, if work at Foxconn does not improve in the coming weeks.

According to the latest hearsay, Amazon’s smartphone will be priced at $100-$200 (€75- €150) outright, tough it’s hard to believe the company will be able to maintain the low price if it continues enhancing its specifications.

Previous rumors claim Amazon plans to ship around 5 million units by the end of the year, but given the last reports there’s no telling how many smartphones Foxconn will be able to produce by the time it goes on sale.
