New Huawei 6.3mm thick 4.9” 1080p flagship with 1.8 GHz K3V3 Cortex A15 CPU, Mali T604 GPU in the works

According to rumors that spread through multiple Chinese websites this morning, Huawei is already working on a new top of the line device to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy S4.

The new Huawei flagship will come with next generation 1.8 GHz K3V3 quad-core ARM Cortex A15 based CPU, Mali T604 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 4.9” 1080p display, 13 Megapixel camera, 2600 mAh battery and will only be 6.3mm thick.

Current rumors peg the new Huawei device for April announcement. Which sounds like a pretty stupid thing to do, since the new handset will definitely hurt current, only 3 months old flagship – Ascend D2. And may even impact sales of not yet shipping Huawei Ascend P2 mid tier device.

On the other hand, there may be a good reason for Chinese smartphone vendor to rush the new SGS4 challenger to market as fast as it can.

At top of the line prices, current Huawei flagship stands little chance against Samsung’s Galaxy S4, when it arrives in China. So significant discounts for D2 are imminent. If Huawei can quickly come up with well designed, thin, 4.9” 1080p handset with the specs outlined above, it could have a strong SGS4 alternative on its hands. Especially in the home market.

Heck, if the specs of this device are true, and Huawei can offer  it 10-20% cheaper than Galaxy S4, they may even have a chance if they decide to launch internationally.
