PlayStation Vita Gets a Price Cut in Japan on February 28

Sony has just confirmed that it's going to permanently discount the PlayStation Vita in its native Japan starting on February 28, when both the Wi-Fi and the 3G+Wi-Fi models will be priced at ¥19,980 (around $215/€161).

Sony released the PlayStation Vita back in December of 2011 in its native Japan and then launched it in North America and Europe on February 2012 for a pretty steep 25,000 yen/$250/€250 for the Wi-Fi version and 30,000 yen/$300/€300 for the 3G+Wi-Fi edition.

Now, Sony has just confirmed through a special live stream in Japan that both the Wi-Fi and the 3G+Wi-Fi models of the PlayStation Vita will now be priced at 19,980 yen (around $215/€161).

The permanent discount will go into effect on February 28 and it's unclear whether it will be carried over to other markets like North America or Europe.

Considering Sony is set to hold a global press conference on February 20 during which it's going to discuss the "Future of PlayStation," it is likely to reveal a price cut for the PS Vita, as well as the oft-rumored PlayStation 4.
