Archos decided to officially unveil its new Platinum line of tablets. These are undoubtedly the most high-specced devices the French company has ever made. Their unveiling follows the introduction of the Titanium line of tablets last month – but those have just become midrange in comparison to the Platinum devices.
Just like with the Titanium range, the Platinum tablets all have incredibly similar specs, the main difference between them being screen size and resolution (and overall size, as a consequence of that).

Whereas there are four Titanium tablets, there are only three Platinum models. The Archos 80 Platinum is, as you’d expect, an 8-incher. It comes with 1,024×768 resolution a la the iPad Mini, and it’s pegged by Archos to compete against the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9. It should become available in February for $199 in the US, £179 in the UK, and €199 elsewhere in Europe.
The Archos 97 Platinum comes with a 9.7-inch 2,048×1,536 touchscreen (that’s iPad Retina-like resolution). It will be out in February too, and will cost $299 in the US, £249 in the UK, and €269 in Continental Europe.
The Archos 116 Platinum has an 11.6-inch 1,920×1,080 IPS touchscreen (just as leaked earlier today), and it will be available in April. It will cost $349, £299, and €349 respectively.
All of the tablets have a quad-core 1.2 GHz processor with 8-core GPU and 1080p video decoding, 2 GB of RAM, front and back cameras, HDMI out, and microSD card slots. They will all run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
