Two Smart Wi-Fi Routers Released by Linksys

Since all consumer electronics seem to be getting smart these days, putting yet another chip in the image of PCs as the only “intelligent” pieces of technology around, Linksys figured it might as well join in on the fun.

That was how it ended up launching the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC 1200 and AC 1600. The former bears the part number EA6300 and is shipping for $169.99 / €130-169.99.

The latter is called EA6400 and has a MSRP (manufacturer suggested retail price) of $189.99 / €145.26-189.99, but will only start shipping in May.

That could mean anything from tomorrow to four weeks from now, so half-way between the two is the most likely ETA.

"The increase in smart devices has created a strong demand for smarter Wi-Fi solutions that can keep up with all of today's technology needs," said Mike Chen, senior director of product management, Linksys.

"Our new, more powerful Smart Wi-Fi routers not only deliver unprecedented speed and range, but also game-changing Smart Wi-Fi tools and apps that allow users to do everything from manage kids' screen time to centrally store and stream music and video, all through their smartphone and tablet, from anywhere around the world."

Both new Linksys routers utilize the beamforming technology to optimize router speed, an can be installed from any device through browser-based setup.

Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC 1600 Video Enthusiast, EA6400, is a dual-band model with 1,300 Mbps over 5 GHz and 200 Mbps over 2.4 GHz.

Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC 1200 Advanced Multimedia, EA6300, is a bit slower, with 867 Mbps on 5 GHz band and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. It is supposed to be “an ideal fit for a small home with three to five connected devices such as a PC, smartphone and Smart TV.”
