Lumix DMC-LF1, the New Compact Camera from Panasonic

Panasonic already has a couple of new ones out, one of them bearing the name of Lumix DMC-LF1.

This is actually one of the two products that we learned a couple of days ago that they were going to be released this week.

Having a 12-megapixel image sensor, the newcomer is well equipped to snap still shots or record videos of anything.

In fact, given the light sensitivity of ISO 12800, it should be able to record and take photos even in the dark, with minimum lighting.

It won't be on par with high-end cameras that have ISO of several tens of thousands, but it is a good number for a 12-MP model (1/1.7-inch Large 12.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS Sensor and Venus Engine).

This is, after all, a compact camera that places emphasis on portability and ease of use, not raw performance.

28-200mm equivalent f2.0-5.9 Leica zoom lens will ship along with the product, to make sure there is a good image quality and zooming capability.

Moving on, the top resolution in which something can be recorded is 1920 x 1080 pixels, at 60i. Formats include AVCHD and MP4.

POWER O.I.S image stabilization is installed on the gadget, and one may select between several shooting modes, like manual control, full panorama, etc.

All in all, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 definitely offers enough for people to buy it, even if they do have a smartphone. Phones have come a long way, but their own, tiny integrated cameras can't compete with the real thing.

Sadly, though Panasonic has officially introduced the newcomer, it did not set an arrival date for store shipments. The price will be of around $500 / €385 – 500.
