Sony Xperia SP Now on Pre-Order in the US at $489.99

Yesterday, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile made the flagship Xperia Z smartphone available for purchase in the United States through its online store, and is now also accepting reservations for the Xperia SP smartphone through the portal.

Made official only several weeks ago, the smartphone has already started to land on shelves in various markets around the world, and appears set to arrive in the United States as well.

Users interested in the purchase of the device through the Sony Store will see the smartphone listed on this page, with a price tag of $489.99 (375 Euro) attached to it, SIM-free and unlocked.

The phone will arrive on shelves in the United States with support for 4G LTE networks, and pre-ordered units will ship on May 20, Sony notes. Both the Black and White flavors of the handset were made available for pre-order.

The Sony Xperia SP smartphone was made official with a 4.6-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution, as well as with a 1.7GHz dual-core processor packed inside.

Furthermore, Sony included an Adreno 320 GPU (MSM8960T) inside the mobile phone, along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, and with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

Xperia SP also sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for full HD video recording, as well as a front camera for making video calls.

Other specs of the device include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity capabilities, MHL port, a 2300mAh battery, and the usual set of sensors. The mobile phone was launched with Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top.

“The Xperia SP smartphone lifts craftsmanship to a whole new level. Boasting a unique design, this NFC Android phone comes with a seamless look and feel that simply melts into your hand,” Sony Mobile notes on the smartphone’s page in the US Sony Store.
