LG Nexus 5 now rumored to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, not the cheaper 600

For a long while earlier this year, LG was rumored to be making the next Nexus smartphone (let’s call it Nexus 5). And back then the general consensus was that, just like the also LG-made Nexus 4 before it, the Nexus 5 would share all the important hardware features with the LG device that it’s based on. In the case of the Nexus 4, that would be the LG Optimus G. And for the Nexus 5, this base was supposed to be the LG G2.

So everyone was expecting the Nexus 5 to sport the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor as the G2. Then, two things happened. First, we got a strange rumor (but from a usually reliable source) that said that Motorola was in fact going to make the next Nexus. And then, just a couple of days ago, we heard that it was LG after all, but that the Nexus 5 won’t be identical on the inside to the LG G2, with Google choosing the cheaper Snapdragon 600 chipset from Qualcomm so it could still sell the Nexus smartphone starting at $299 for the 8 GB version.

Well, today we get yet another rumor that contradicts some of the stuff we already found out earlier. This time the Nexus 5 is said to be made by LG, but come with the same Snapdragon 800 CPU as seen in the LG G2 (which is pictured above). No word about what (if anything) this will do to the pricing of Google’s next Nexus smartphone.

This tidbit comes from a Vietnamese website that’s been reliable with such things at times in the past, so we don’t know what to believe anymore. This report further states that the LG Nexus 5 will have the same 5.2-inch 1080p Full HD touchscreen as the G2, including the insanely small bezels around it.

However, the design will be slightly different from the G2 – which was to be expected, since the Nexus 4 isn’t exactly a carbon copy of the Optimus G either. Interestingly, the Nexus 5 is said to be thinner than the G2. And overall, its design will be similar to this year’s Nexus 7 tablet, which was unveiled just a few weeks ago by Google and Asus. So it seems like Google wants to create some kind of common design language to be shared by its Nexus devices for the first time.

The LG Nexus 5 is purportedly going to launch in the fourth quarter of this year, so sometime in October, November, or December.
