Verizon announces the waterproof Kyocera Hydro Elite

Verizon has officially confirmed that it’s going to launch the Kyocera Hydro Elite, a new smartphone that was first spotted a couple of weeks ago.

Like many Kyocera handsets that are usually released by Sprint in the US, Verizon’s Hydro Elite is waterproof, and can be immersed in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes.

Running Android Jelly Bean (version 4.1), the new Kyocera features a 4.3 inch HD (1280 x 720) display, LTE connectivity, Smart Sonic Receiver technology (“making the phone audible even in the noisiest environments”), Touch-and-Send NFC sharing, dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 2,100 mAh battery, and wireless charging capabilities.

Verizon will start selling the Kyocera Hydro Elite on August 29. That’s the same day when the largest US mobile carrier will also release a more important new handset: the Moto X (which costs $99.99 on contract as well).
