[CES 2013] Huawei Debuts Ascend W1, Its First Windows Phone 8 Smartphone

Huawei's first Windows Phone 8 device is the Ascend W1, revealed at CES 2013. Looking at the specifications, we hope that the Ascend W1 has a low price. The W1 is a 4-inch device with 480 x 800 pixels IPS display. The heart of the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core 1.2 GHz processor paired with an Adreno 305 GPU. Another downside of this phone is 512 MB of RAM, which may be insufficient for the multitasking needs of Windows Phone 8.

The handset measures 124.5 x 63.7 x 10.5 inches and has a 1,950 mAh battery. According to Huawei, its 470 hours of standby time are longer than any other Windows Phone device. In terms of features, the W1 includes a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with a VGA front-facing camera. It sports only 4 GB of onboard storage, which seems too low for today's standards. Though there is a MicroSD slot with 32 GB support.

Huawei also said that the Ascend W1 will be available in various colours. Russia users will first get their hands on W1 while other countries should get their samples by the end of this month.

One more interesting thing is that the W1 is not the only Windows Phone 8 device the company will be making. There are rumours that the company is working on a Windows Phone 8 handset that will be similar to the 6.1-inch Ascend Mate.
