Samsung and Verizon Wireless hinted at the upcoming release of a Windows Phone 8 device a few weeks ago, but they did not offer additional details on the phone’s exact release date and price tag. Although we knew that the Big Red planned to launch the Samsung ATIV Odyssey, a slightly different version of ATIV S, we had no idea when it would hit shelves.
Well, it looks like the folks over at evleaks managed to confirm with sources close to the matter that Samsung ATIV Odyssey should start shipping on January 24.
Well, it looks like the folks over at evleaks managed to confirm with sources close to the matter that Samsung ATIV Odyssey should start shipping on January 24.
The shipping date has yet to be confirmed by the carrier, but evleaks usually gets it right so we don’t have any reasons to doubt the accuracy of the information yet.
Windows Phone enthusiasts hoping to get the same specs included onto Samsung ATIV S will be disappointed as the ATIV Odyssey is a slightly downgraded version of the former.
Even though it does come with LTE support for Verizon’s 4G network, Samsung ATIV Odyssey packs only 8GB of internal memory, whereas the ATIV S comes with 16GB or 32GB storage.
Another major difference between the two Windows Phone 8 devices is the size and quality of their displays.
While the ATIV S boasts an incredible 4.8-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution, Verizon’s ATIV Odyssey comes with a mere 4.0-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 480 x 800 pixels resolution.
The ATIV Odyssey packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, while the ATIV S sports a much better 8-megapixel rear camera.
Luckily, they are both equipped with the same processor, as each model is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon processor.
It is also worth mentioning that Samsung ATIV Odyssey drains energy from a 2100 mAh Li-Ion battery, whereas the ATIV S features a slightly better 2300 mAh Li-Ion battery.
