BT confirms 320Mb Infinity fibre optic home broadband plans

BT has announced plans to up the maximum speed of BT Infinity fibre optic home broadband to 320Mb.

At present, the fastest fibre home broadband BT offers is rated at 160Mb, available under the BT Infinity banner. This ceiling will be blasted through "later this year" according BT's general manager of consumer broadband David McDonald.

However, the availability of this super high-speed broadband will be limited. To get the 320Mb BT Infinity connection, you'll need have access to 'fibre to premises' broadband, as opposed to the 'fibre to exchange' broadband that most BT Infinity customers have.

The 320Mb broadband will cost £50 a month, and although BT did not reveal exact terms that will apply to the contract, it's likely to be subject to the samer 18-month contract as current BT Infinity deals.

It was only relatively recently that BT removed all throttling and download limits from its top Infinity packages - back in February 2013.

The top, unlimited 160Mb BT Infinity deal costs £35 a month - subject to an additional £15 monthly line rental charge.

BT Home Hub 4
BT revealed its new high-speed broadband plans at the launch of its new Home Hub 4 router, which improves upon previous models by including dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz transmission.

It uses smart channel switching to reduce the effects of interference from other devices in the home, primarily those broadcasting over the 2.4GHz spectrum. That includes microwaves, Bluetooth devices and other non-Bluetooth wireless headphones.
