Nvidia announced the Tegra 4 quad-core processor based on ARM’s Cortex-A15 architecture back in January. So far, though, only a few tablets running it have been unveiled, and absent are any smartphones from any known brands. Until now, at least.
It’s clear that Nvidia isn’t having a good year in terms of mobile chipset sales, but maybe that will change in the coming months. Or not. Regardless, we may soon see the first Android smartphone powered by the Tegra 4 chipset.

And it could be the ZTE U988S, seen below in some leaked renders. The U988S will obviously be launched under a more catchy name. Until then, though, let’s talk about specs.
Rumor has it that this device will come with a 5-inch 1080p Full HD touchscreen, a 1.8 GHz Tegra 4, a 13 MP rear camera, a 2 MP front camera, 2 GB of RAM, a microSD card slot, and 9 mm thickness. It will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean from day one.
The ZTE U988S definitely looks like it may be the Chinese company’s next flagship Android smartphone, at least on paper. Right now there are no guesses about when it may be announced or when we could see it in stores (or where), but we’ll keep you posted.
