Asus Memo Pad HD 7 pre-orders start for $149, shipping on August 9

While the original 7-inch Asus Memo Pad is now being offered for incredibly low prices, its successor, the Memo Pad HD 7, has just gone up for pre-order. No less than four big, well known online electronics retailers now let you get one, but there are some things you need to take into account when you choose one of them.

Let’s start with price. Amazon has the Memo Pad HD 7 cheapest, at $149. All the rest are offering you the tablet for $149.99. So if saving 99 cents is important to you, then by all means get it from Amazon.

Then there’s the matter of the release date. GameStop will have the tablet in stock on August 9, which is next Friday. Newegg will release it on August 10, and Amazon looks like it will be the last with its August 11 date. TigerDirect doesn’t mention a shipping date.

Finally, we turn to colors. GameStop has it in blue, white, and pink. Newegg, Amazon, and TigerDirect have all of those, plus green.

The Asus Memo Pad HD 7 comes with a 7-inch 1,280×800 touchscreen, a 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, a 5 MP rear camera, a 1.2 MP front camera, Wi-Fi, and it runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

So if you’re in the market for a budget 7-inch Android tablet and the new Nexus 7 is too expensive for you at $229, the Asus Memo Pad HD 7 might be the perfect choice. That is, if you understand that you can’t expect much in terms of software support.
