New Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Note 10.1 2014 Edition announced

Samsung has finally announced the long-rumored Galaxy Note III – but it’s calling it Note 3 (not a big difference anyway). Alongside the Note 3, the South Korean company has also unveiled a new Note 10.1 tablet. Those who’ve been expecting the larger Note 12.2 will have to wait a bit longer.

Running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the new Note is both lighter, and slightly smaller than the Note II, weighing 168 grams and measuring 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm. That’s nice, especially since the Note 3 sports a larger display than the older model: 5.7 inch (Super AMOLED, Full HD) vs. 5.5 inch. Another nice thing is that the Note 3 has “a soft and textured-touch back cover and delicate stitching.”

The Galaxy Note 3 has an improved S Pen stylus, complemented by new software features. “A simple click of the S Pen button while hovering over the screen introduces users to Air Command, a palette of five powerful features”: Action Memo, Scrapbook, Screen Write, S Finder, and Pen Window.

The new Samsung phablet further comes with LTE Cat 4, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Samsung KNOX (which can be activated to allow users “run and store security-sensitive applications and data inside a protected execution environment”), 13MP rear camera (with Smart Stabilization, “high CRI LED flash” and 4K Ultra HD video recording), 2MP front-facing camera, 3GB of RAM, 32GB / 64GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, and a 3,200 mA battery.

The LTE version of the Note 3 (SM-905) has a 2.3GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 800 processor. The 3G version (SM-900) uses Samsung’s own Exynos 5 Octa chipset.

The Galaxy Note 3 will be available in Europe starting September 25, in three color versions: black, white, and pink. Samsung UK is already taking preorders for it, as well as for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

Starting October, the Note 3 will be released in the US and Japan. I assume that all major US mobile carriers will sell the device.

As for the new Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, Samsung is calling this “2014 Edition”, although it will be available pretty soon – starting this quarter.

The new Note 10.1 is probably the tablet that’s been rumored earlier this year as the Galaxy Note 10.1 Plus. Its features include a 10.1 inch display with 2560 x 1600 pixels, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the new S Pen, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 3GB of RAM, and an 8,220 mAh battery.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition has two color options (black and white), and three storage options: 16GB, 32GB, 64GB. Connectivity-wise, there will be a Note 10.1 Wi-Fi (1.9GHz Exynos 5 Octa processor), a Note 10.1 Wi-Fi + 3G (1.9GHz Exynos 5 Octa processor), and a Note 10.1 Wi-Fi + LTE (2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor).
