Samsung SmartCam HD PRO WiFi IP unveiled with ultra-wide lens

Samsung Techwin, maker of security and surveillance devices, has unveiled the SmartCam HD PRO, a WiFi IP surveillance camera offering 1080p Full HD video recording and a 128-degree ultra-wide-angle lens. With the SmartCam HD, users will be able to remotely monitor various premises with a mobile device via an Android and iOS app.

The SmartCam HD PRO features a 1/2.8-inch CMOS sensor, as well as Samsung’s Light Enhancer technology and Wide Dynamic Range. Using a larger sensor than some other products of a similar nature, Samsung says the larger amount of light gathered allows for more dynamic colors and clearer details in the recorded footage. Motion blurs are reduced using the WDR tech, also working to reproduce details in areas where backlighting could be an issue.

Samsung says the SmartCam HD PRO offers both advanced motion and audio detection, allowing for less false alarms in terms of picking up motion, such as what might arise from falling leaves. With the audio detection, the camera can pick up indicators of possible problems if it is too dark for the motion detection to do so, with the sound of breaking glass being one example.

The video can be saved either locally or remotely, with motion detection under remote storage allowing for recording up to thirty seconds at a time. The remote storage is achieved via video uploading to a private YouTube account. Real-time alerts to a mobile device are also possible, as well as to email. For local storage, microSDXC is supported in capacities up to 64GB. Both continuous and motion recording is an option under this setting.

Samsung Techwin’s security products vice president sales and marketing Mike Palazzolo said: “Remote video monitoring options for today’s consumers are more accessible than ever. At Samsung, we’ve not only focused on developing the most advanced and highest-quality IP camera in the marketplace, but have devoted significant resources to ensuring the overall experience is world class.”

The SmartCam HD PRO will be available in December for $179 USD.
