MediaTek Officially Unveils Octa-Core MT6592 Chipset

After months of teasing, semiconductor company MediaTek has finally gone official with the world's first "true octa-core" processor. Dubbed the MT6592, inside are eight ARM Cortex A7 architecture (power optimized) based CPU cores, each capable of clocking as high as 2 GHz.

Built on the 28nm manufacturing process, MediaTek has incorporated smart temperature and power consumption measuring algorithms to keep these critical parameters under check at all times, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the chipset.

A quad-core GPU powers the SoC, and the last time we had heard, it's one of PowerVR's new Series 6 Rogue GPU. 4K and Ultra HD video playback is included, and the MT6592 supports camera modules up to 16 MP. Full HD displays are also supported.

The first batch of octa-core Smartphones, running on Android Jelly Bean are expected to arrive in early 2014.
