Vivo Xplay 3S will be launched on December 12

BBK Electronics – a Chinese company that manufactures handsets under the Vivo brand (not to be confounded with Telefónica’s Vivo) – is almost ready to launch the world’s first smartphone that features a 2560 x 1440 pixel display. As previously reported, the smartphone is called Vivo Xplay 3S.

Its official launch date, according to an image revealed by GizChina, is December 12. Pricing details aren’t available yet, but don’t expect the handset to be on the cheap side.

2560 x 1440 pixel screen aside, the Vivo Xplay 3S should also feature Android (perhaps 4.4 KitKat?), a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, LTE connectivity, 3GB of RAM, and a rear camera with F/1.8 lens. This is shaping up to be a high-end smartphone which – at least on paper – overshadows current flagships from well-known companies (Samsung, LG, Sony etc). Unfortunately, chances for the Xplay 3S to be available outside of China are pretty slim. We’ll let you know more when new details are available.
