The other day, we introduced, or rather Micro-Star International introduced, the first gaming laptop powered by an AMD A10-series accelerated processing unit. Now we have another world's first notebook to examine.
MSI has launched the GT70 gaming notebook, which has the full name of MSI GT70 Dragon Edition 2.
Obviously, it is a reconfiguration of the original MSI GT70 Dragon Edition, just like the AMD A10-based laptop is an updated GX70.
Obviously, it is a reconfiguration of the original MSI GT70 Dragon Edition, just like the AMD A10-based laptop is an updated GX70.
In fact, it is the first notebook to use Intel's Haswell processor lineup, making the GT70 a sort of foreshadowing of what will happen at Computex Taipei next month (June 2013).
Much like GX70 was a foreshadowing of the official introduction of the AMD mobile APU lineup, which happened just hours ago.
The specifications of the MSI GT70 Dragon Edition 2 are exactly what one might expect from a so-called flagship product.
The upcoming Haswell CPU is backed by a variable memory capacity, multiple SSDs (solid-state drives) arranged in RAID 0 (speed optimized), and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX780M discrete graphics card.
According to MSI, the hardware is capable of a 3DMark Vantage benchmark score of 36,000, which is quite high.
Needless to say, the 17.3-inch LCD (liquid crystal display) has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Just as obvious is, or should be, that the laptop's screen is not the only way to play games or videos. MSI has also included a VGA port, mini DisplayPort and an HDMI connector.
Through them, the signal can be streamed to an HDTV or monitor, provided owners have one larger and better than the notebook's own screen.
In addition to GT70, MSI has prepared the GS70 Stealth, with GTX 765M graphics card and just a slightly slimmer build. Sales will start in June, after Computex (June 4-8).
