If you want a tablet that’s about the size of Apple’s iPad Mini, but without iOS and not that expensive, Acer’s Iconia Tab A1-810 is probably the best thing you can get.
The A1-810 is available now in Germany, where well-known retailer Media Markt is selling the 16GB (white, Wi-Fi only) version of it for €189. I assume the tablet is going to hit shelves in other European markets pretty soon. Update: it’s available in France as well.

Running Android Jelly Bean, the Acer Iconia Tab A1-810 sports a 7.9 inch IPS display with 1024 x 768 pixels – just like the iPad Mini. That aside, it’s got a quad-core 1.2GHz MediaTek MT8125 processor, 5MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, MicroSD card slot, and a 3,250 mAh battery.
TabletBlog (in German) says there will also be a 3G edition of the A1. This should be launched in June, costing €239.
Earlier this month, when Acer unveiled the A1 in New York City, it said the tablet would be released in the US starting June, for $169 (8GB model), or $199 (16GB).
Tablets aside, Acer also has new affordable Jelly Bean smartphones – including the 4.5 inch Liquid E2, which might help the company sell a total of 2 million handsets before the end of the year.
