Xperia Tablet Z Generally Available

With the success of Xperia Z, which brought Sony back to the big league of premium smartphones, particularly the dust- and water-resistant yet slim and edgy design; it was only natural for Sony to work on a tablet that sticks to the design methodology. Enter the Xperia Tablet Z.

Sony claims the Xperia Tablet Z to be the slimmest and lightest tablet in the 10.1-inch category. Measuring 172 x 266 x 6.9 mm, and weighing 495 g, it sure lives up to the claims. It is otherwise a physically upscaled Xperia Z (without touching the thickness).

The screen offers an eye-pleasing 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution, is backed by an LED-backlit TFT panel, which can beam 16 million colors. The screen is backed by Mobila Bravia Engine 2. In the imaging department, you get an 8-megapixel primary camera, backed by 2-megapixel front-facing one, which is good enough for 720p video-chats.

The Xperia Tablet Z is designed to integrate with other Sony appliances, much like its smartphone cousin. It features 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, DLNA compliance, Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL), Bluetooth, and NFC. Under the hood, it is driven by the same Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core chip that drives the Xperia Z, backed by 2 GB of RAM, and running Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean."

In addition to storage-based (16, 32 GB), color-based (glossy white, black) variants, the Xperia Tablet Z will be available in WiFi-only and 4G LTE + WiFi ones.
