HTC Butterfly S officially announced. Available for $765, in Asia-Pacific only

HTC Butterfly, also known as Droid DNA on Verizon, was the phone that started the company turnaround late last year, after a painful 12 month slump.

After late 2011 debacle of HTC Sensation and its variants, and the failure of the original HTC One line in 2012, Droid DNA, released on Verizon late last year, was the first HTC phone to garner both fan and expert enthusiasm, and rack up some serious sales.

So it is no wonder that HTC feels very fondly about the device, and is not yet ready to let it go, even in favor of its One flagship. To keep the Butterfly franchise humming, today they announced an updated version of the device, called Butterfly S.

The new HTC Butterfly S looks very much like original, and comes with:
  • 1.9 GHz quad-core Snapdragon CPU
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS with Sense 5
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 5” Full-HD (1080p) Super LCD 3 display
  • UltraPixel camera, 2.1 mpx front camera
  • Dual Boom Sound front speakers
  • 16GB of internal memory, microSD support (up to 64GB)
  • 3200 mAh battery

Unfortunately, for now, HTC Butterfly S will only be available in Asia-Pacific, for $765. And, since Verizon is already ranging HTC One in the U.S., while the original Butterfly never really made it to Europe, the chances to get this handset outside of Asia are pretty slim.

If HTC decides to expand the Butterfly S availability in the coming days, we’ll make sure you hear about it. In the meantime, enjoy the promo video of the new device:
